About

xIf you haven't noticed my big goofy logos at the top already, I'm Greg Venech and this is my portfolio site. I recently graduated from the University at Albany and am now working on a few private web and design projects. I have always been infatuated with art and technology. Web development proved to be a perfect place for me to practice both. I began my studies/work with in the field about three years ago. Look through the other cards behind this one and the rest of this web site to learn more about me and my work.

Work

xFor the past year, until May, I worked at the Center for Technology in Government while completing my degree in Informatics. I worked on a number of exciting projects there including an Interactive Alumni Map project and a Data Visualization Project for the MTA. With the help of my supervisors and colleagues, I was able to learn a great deal in a fast-paced work environment. In my spare time I designed & developed this site. I am now working with another student, whom I met at CTG, to develop a mobile application for both Android and iOS that is set to launch in the next month. If you have a project you'd like my help on or are interested in hiring me, please get in touch via email or through my contact page.

School

xAs mentioned, I recently recieved my Bachelor's degree from the University at Albany in May of this year, 2014. I majored in Informatics, with a concentration in web development. I minored in Art, where I focused most of my efforts on Graphic Design.

I am not considering graduate school yet as I would really like to get more experience in both fields first. I have contemplated going in the future, in which case I would most likely choose to pursue a degree in Web Development, Graphic Design or Creative Advertising. However I continue to find myself fascinated by many fields of work, mostly in technology, which makes me hesitant about locking myself into two more years of school anytime soon.

Hobbies

xSeeing that you're on my site, I'm assuming that you're probably asking yourself some questions, such as: "What's with all these things sliding around?" and "Who is this Greg guy anyway?" I've told you a lot about my schooling and work, but not too much about myself in general.

When I'm not hunched over my computer coding or tinkering around in Photoshop, I'm probably off doing one of the following. Silkscreening is one of my favorite hobbies. Aside from sketching, it was the first art form I learned and one that I often wish I had more time to do. I also read a lot and cook often, though usually not at the same time. I love Italian food and learned a lot while working for a year at DeFazio's Woodfired Pizza in Troy. I also play handball, basketball, snowboard, and waterskii whenever possible (Easy favorite, however I only get the oppurtunity for about a week every year).
